Portland, OR is The Knife Capital. Located at the north end of the Willamette Valley, where the Willamette River joins the mighty Columbia River. About 1.5 hrs. from the beautiful Oregon coast. Oregon's wine country is a 30-40 minute drive. Skiing and other winter sports are close as well in the rugged, volcano studded Cascade Mountains.
It's true, we get our share of rain, but it wouldn't be so green here without it. Most of the rain occurs in the winter and spring. Summers are fantastic and the Fall is gorgeous and mild.
For a contrast, take a trip east, over the Cascade Mountains to the high desert country of Central and Eastern Oregon. It's a different world. Come visit sometime.
